Shift

I appreciate when Jameela Jamil claims she has devolved in the pandemic. I don’t believe it. I think she’s moving along just fine. Yet, it just feels better to hear than Gwyneth Paltrow’s claim that we should all be versed in a new language and writing the next great novel during all this.

I think for some of us the shifts seem so slight we may not notice them for some time. Our responses will be different and the way we receive information. We may have a better understanding of what we have time for and we may absolutely say YES the next time we’re invited to someone and it is safe to go.

I keep thinking about that. The simplest invite that I turned down. It was before times maybe even exactly about a year ago, a girlfriend texted me asking if I wanted to meet for a drink. I consider her a close friend but we don’t usually meet up at the bar like that so it was a rare request. I was already settled in with my boys are didn’t meet her. How sweet that missed simple interaction sounds now. How I wish I said yes just so I could have one more recent memory locked in of being social. Being out. Being with my friend.

I’ll have a different response the next time this happens. I think I may be more raw and excited when the world opens back up. Some of us are watching ourselves grow in real time and others will be reminded of it for years to come.
